In the fall of 2009, the Elmbrook Education Foundation embarked on a campaign to deliver SMART Response Assessment Units to all middle school math classrooms at both Wisconsin Hills and Pilgrim Park Middle Schools. Thanks to community support, all math classrooms had the benefit of this technology to kick off the 2nd semester of the 2010-11 school year.
The Middle School SMART Response Grant represents the 2nd cycle of the Foundation's District-wide Super Grant Program. The first Super Grant cycle was directed towards technology initiatives at BEHS and BCHS back in 2008. Please see the Super Grants page for additional details.
Background on SMART Response
SMART Response technology is a proven tool for supporting differentiated instruction in the classroom and helping students quickly identify areas that require additional study on their part. SMART Response assessments provide information to the teacher in real time vs. the delay of written and/or standardized assessments. Results can impact instruction in the classroom immediately. SMART Response also allows kids who are less apt to participate in class the opportunity to show the teacher what they know.
Staff who received a SMART Response unit earlier in the rollout were trained by their building technology coordinator and are now sharing both their best practices and the SMART Response assessments they have developed so that others can benefit from their experience. This 'district-wide sharing' is the power behind District-wide Foundation grants.
The Elmbrook Education Foundation would like to thank each and every one of those that supported this campaign. This was a new endeavor for the Foundation and it was a huge success because of all of you!
